Terms of service

Effective October 25, 2026

The short version: the site is free to use; Insureability isn't an insurance company and nothing here is advice; paid plans renew until you cancel, which you can do anytime online; and if you ask within 7 days of a charge, we refund it.

1. Who we are

These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of Insureability ("Insureability," "we," "us") for the website and the services on it: ZIP code pages, address reports, Ask Shirley, alerts, accounts and paid plans. By using Insureability you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your information.

2. What Insureability is, and isn't

Insureability organizes public records (the California Department of Insurance, the California FAIR Plan Association, CAL FIRE, FEMA and others) and explains them in plain English. Insureability is not an insurance company, agency or broker. We don't sell insurance, quote premiums, recommend insurers or take applications, and we're not paid by insurers.

Everything on Insureability is general information, not insurance, legal, financial or real estate advice. Ratings, figures, map lookups and answers can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and they are not an official determination for any home. Insurers decide each home on its own. Before you rely on anything, confirm it with your insurer, a licensed agent or broker, or the Department of Insurance.

3. Ask Shirley

Ask Shirley uses artificial intelligence and can make mistakes. Check important information. Don't send documents or details you don't want processed; see the privacy policy for what happens to uploads. Free use has monthly limits shown on the site.

4. Accounts

You sign in with a link sent to your email. Keep access to your email secure; anyone who can open your sign-in links can use your account. You're responsible for what happens in your account. You can delete it anytime from your account page.

5. Paid plans, trials and renewal

6. Refunds

If you ask within 7 days of any charge, we'll refund that charge in full, no questions asked. Ask through our contact form. After 7 days, charges aren't refunded, but you can cancel anytime so you aren't charged again. Refunds go back to the card you paid with; your bank may take 5 to 10 business days to show it.

7. Client reports and branding (agents)

Pro and Team let you put your name, brokerage, license number and logo on reports for clients. You're responsible for what you add and for following the rules that apply to you, such as license-advertising rules. Don't present an Insureability report as your own analysis, an appraisal, an inspection or an insurance quote. Each report shows that it comes from public data and that Insureability isn't an insurer.

8. Fair use

Use Insureability for its purpose: looking up homes and areas, for yourself or your clients. Don't scrape or bulk-download the site, resell its data, get around usage limits or security, interfere with the service, impersonate someone, or use it for anything unlawful. We may limit or end access for misuse.

9. Our content and data from others

The site's design, text and software belong to Insureability. Public data stays subject to its sources' terms (for example, FEMA, CAL FIRE and Zillow are credited where their data appears). You may share links and printed reports. Neighbor premiums and other figures people submit are unverified.

10. No warranty and limits on liability

Insureability is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. We're not liable for decisions you make based on Insureability, or for indirect, incidental or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100 if you haven't paid us. Some laws don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

11. Changes and ending the service

We may change or stop features. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and tell account holders by email before the change takes effect. If we ever stop a paid service, we'll refund the unused part of your paid period.

12. California law

These terms are governed by California law. Disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts in California, except that either side may use small claims court for a claim that qualifies.
